Extravagance (John 3:16-21)
"The very nature of God is extravagance." Oswald Chambers. - Would you agree that the very nature of God is extravagannt? Why?
- In John 3:16-21, what do the contrasting opposites of belief/reject, life/perish, light/darkness reveal about the human condition?
- What does it mean to "perish" (Jn 3:16)? To have "eternal life" (Jn 3:16)?
- How can Jn 3:16 affect how I treat a nasty, self-centered, egotistical, unpleasant person?
- Are people "condemned already" (Jn 3:18) because of specific sins or something deeper (Jer 17:9; Isa 64:6)?
- Why is the warning of condemnation and judgment necessary?
- What does it mean to "love darkness instead of light" (Jn 3:19)?
- Why do people love darkness (1 Jn 2:15-16)?
- Do you "stay in the dark" about something God wants to heal or correct?
- Is there an area in your life where you are avoiding God's light because you're afraid your actions will be exposed (Jn 3:20)?
- How can you practically "live by the truth" without being self-righteous (Jn 3:21)?
- What would it take for you to “come into the light” (Jn 3:21)?
- How does coming into the light balance your correct belief?
