Loved by God.

* It's good to suffer loss, for it draws me to the Cross where God's loss is more than what anyone ever lost. * We cannot hear what the stories of the Bible are saying until we hear them as stories about ourselves. * Let go of control. * Trust God. Thank God. Think about God. Talk to God. Talk about God.

Extravagance (John 3:16-21)

"The very nature of God is extravagance." Oswald Chambers.
  • Would you agree that the very nature of God is extravagannt? Why?
  1. In John 3:16-21, what do the contrasting opposites of belief/reject, life/perish, light/darkness reveal about the human condition?
  2. What does it mean to "perish" (Jn 3:16)? To have "eternal life" (Jn 3:16)?
  3. How can Jn 3:16 affect how I treat a nasty, self-centered, egotistical, unpleasant person?
  4. Are people "condemned already" (Jn 3:18) because of specific sins or something deeper (Jer 17:9; Isa 64:6)?
    • Why is the warning of condemnation and judgment necessary?
  5. What does it mean to "love darkness instead of light" (Jn 3:19)?
    • Why do people love darkness (1 Jn 2:15-16)?
    • Do you "stay in the dark" about something God wants to heal or correct?
  6. Is there an area in your life where you are avoiding God's light because you're afraid your actions will be exposed (Jn 3:20)?
  7. How can you practically "live by the truth" without being self-righteous (Jn 3:21)?
    • What would it take for you to “come into the light” (Jn 3:21)?
    • How does coming into the light balance your correct belief?
