Loved by God.

* It's good to suffer loss, for it draws me to the Cross where God's loss is more than what anyone ever lost. * We cannot hear what the stories of the Bible are saying until we hear them as stories about ourselves. * Let go of control. * Trust God. Thank God. Think about God. Talk to God. Talk about God.

Is There More to Life Than This?

How would you start an Alpha Course?

I attended one in downtown Chicago. It is from noon to 1 pm with lunch thrown in (which is an incentive to attend). Consider doing the following:

* Start with this light-hearted, unoffensive, funny 20 min introductory video (that has been shown to introduce the Alpha Course): Is There More To Life Than This? (Preparing light snacks won't hurt.)

* Pray to invite friends, seekers, and skeptics to come and watch the video.

* After watching the video, ask for thoughts, comments and reflections.

* Create a safe place for an open discussion where anyone can ask any question about anything.

* Keep the time to an hour.

* Do not pressure people or argue with them.

* Some questions for the moderator to consider asking to help keep the discussion going:
  1. If God would certainly answer you and your prayer, what would you ask him?
  2. Instead of asking, "What on earth are you doing?" ask instead, "What are you doing on earth?"
  3. Reflect on this quote by C. S. Lewis: "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."
  4. What are some questions/issues of people you know that confound them or offend them about Christians, Christianity and/or the Bible?
