Loved by God.

* It's good to suffer loss, for it draws me to the Cross where God's loss is more than what anyone ever lost. * We cannot hear what the stories of the Bible are saying until we hear them as stories about ourselves. * Let go of control. * Trust God. Thank God. Think about God. Talk to God. Talk about God.

Do You Get It? (Luke 24:13-35)

  • "They stood still, their faces downcast" [with grim, saddened expressions] (Lk 24:17b).
  • "...but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem/liberate Israel" (Lk 24:21a).
  • "They asked each other, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?'” (Lk 24:32)
** Do you have a "lightbulb moment"? An epiphany? An "Aha" moment?
  1. When you are down in the dumps (Lk 24:17):
    1. are you aware and do you believe that Jesus is walking right beside you (Lk 24:15)?
    2. do you talk openly "about everything" (Lk 24:13-14), or distract yourself to not think about it?
    • Why couldn't they recognize Jesus (Lk 24:16; Mk 9:32)?
    • What causes disappointment, disillusionment (Lk 24:21)?
  2. Are there specific verses you are “slow of heart” to believe (Lk 24:25)? [Look at your leisure: Mt 5:39, 44; 10:37; 18:21-22; Lk 14:26.]
    • How does the O.T. pointing to Christ change how you read the Bible (Lk 24:26-27)? [Look at your leisure: Gen 3:15; Dt 18:15; Ps 16:10; Isa 53:3-5, 11-12; Jn 5:39; Ac 17:2-3.]
  3. Do you “urge” Jesus to stay, or have you become comfortable with Him as a remote, distant teacher (Lk 24:28-29)?
    • Why is the Word + communion/fellowship in the Christian life necessary to "open your eyes" (Lk 24:30-31; Ac 2:42; 1 Jn 1:3, 7)?
    • Why is a solo/individualistic Christian life inadequate (Prov 27:17; Eccl 4:12)?
    • Does your heart “burn” during prayer or study (Lk 24:32; Jer 20:9)?
  4. What “Jerusalem” (place of past hurt/failure) should you return to testify to His resurrection (Lk 24:33-35)?
    • Do you discover new treasures from Scripture (Mt 13:52) and share it anew (Rev 21:5; Rom 12:2)? Or habitually recycle the Bible verses you already know and are comfortable and familiar with?
    • Do you keep a "burning heart”? Do you think that your Bible knowledge is already correct and complete?
