"They stood still, their faces downcast" [with grim, saddened expressions] (Lk 24:17b).
"...but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem/liberate Israel" (Lk 24:21a)."They asked each other, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?'” (Lk 24:32)
- Do you have a "lightbulb moment" that comes to mind?
- When you are disillusioned, disappointed or dejected, do you talk with others "about everything that had happened" (Lk 24:13-14), or isolate yourself?
- When you are downcast, are you aware that Jesus is walking beside you (Lk 24:15-20, 22-24) [Waiting to re-interpret your story through His lens]?
- Are there specific promises from Scripture you are “slow of heart” to believe (Lk 24:25)?
- How does the O.T. pointing to Christ change how you read the Bible (Lk 24:26-27; Gen 3:15; Dt 18:15; Ps 16:10; Isa 53:3-5, 11-12; Jn 5:39; Ac 17:2-3)?
- Do you keep studying Scripture when parts of it seem confusing or hidden (1 Pet 1:10-11)?
- Do you have a desperate “urging” for Jesus to stay, or have you become comfortable with Him as a remote, distant teacher (Lk 24:28-29)?
- How does the Word and communion or fellowship in the Christian life "open your eyes" (Lk 24:30-31)?
- Does your heart “burn” within you during prayer or study (Lk 24:32; Jer 20:9)?
- What “Jerusalem” (a place of past hurt or failure) is God calling you to return to in order to testify to His resurrection power (Lk 24:33-35)?
- Are you sharing what God has taught you newly and recently? Or do you recycle the Scriptures you already know?
- Do you “keep a burning heart” or assume your correct Bible knowledge?
