Loved by God.

* It's good to suffer loss, for it draws me to the Cross where God's loss is more than what anyone ever lost. * We cannot hear what the stories of the Bible are saying until we hear them as stories about ourselves. * Let go of control. * Trust God. Thank God. Think about God. Talk to God. Talk about God.

Day 25: The Hidden Wisdom of God (Imitation of Christ. Bk. 3. Ch. 58-59)

  • Why is one soul flooded with grace while another is left in difficulty?
  • Why is one person greatly afflicted and another greatly exalted?
  • Is it productive for you to figure out God’s hidden judgments?
  • Are you humble enough to trust God’s heart even when you can’t trace His hand?
  • What confidence do I have in this life or what greater solace is there?
  • Could things ever go badly with you present?
Ch. 58: Not analyzing higher things or God's hidden judgments. [Enter into mystery. God is reason (Jn 1:1) and also beyond it. Don't try to break down to fully understand God's ways/judgments. You don't have to figure out every little piece of heaven/God. There are so many things we have no idea about. Very broad topic.] Why is one person greatly afflicted and another greatly exalted (Ps 119:137; 19:9; Rom 11:33)? Don't dispute who is greater in heaven. God is not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Cor 14:33). God leads the saints [and us] through many temptations (1 Cor 10:13; Jas 1:13). God made both small and great. Beware of dealing with what surpasses your knowledge in an overly curious way. One who ponders the greatness of his sins and how far he is from perfection is much more acceptable to God than one who argues about who is greater. Learn to be content (Phil 4:11-12) and refrain from vain chatter. Ascribe no goodness to yourself (Rom 7:18).

Ch. 59: All hope and confidence must be fixed on God alone. Heaven is where God is. Death and Hell are where He is not. What confidence do I have in this life or what greater solace is there? Out of everything that appears under heave, is it not you? Could things ever go badly with you present? Do I put all my hope and refuge in God? The goal of all good(s), the height of all life, the depth of all speech is God Himself. [Does my interior conform to God's word? How often do I turn to people/friends for solace? Do I place my priorities in right order?]
